TIG welding (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding), also known as non-melting inert gas shielded arc welding. Whether it is manual welding or automatic welding of 0.5-4.0 mm thick stainless steel, TIG welding is the most commonly used welding method. TIG welding with filler wire is often used for the base welding of pressure vessels because TIG welding has better air tightness and can reduce the porosity of the weld during pressure vessel welding. The heat source of TIG welding is a DC arc, the working voltage is 10-95 volts, but the current can reach 600 A. The correct connection method of the welding machine is that the workpiece is connected to the positive pole of the power supply, the tungsten pole in the welding torch is used as the negative pole , and the inert gas is generally argon.
Tungsten inert gas welding can be divided into three categories according to the operation mode: manual welding, semi-automatic welding and automatic welding. In manual tungsten inert gas welding , the movement of the welding gun and the addition of filler wire are completely manual; in semi-automatic tungsten inert gas welding, the movement of the welding gun is manual, but the filler wire is automatically fed by the wire feeding mechanism; in automatic tungsten inert gas welding, if the workpiece is fixed and the arc moves, the welding gun is installed on the welding trolley , and the trolley can move and the filler wire can be added by cold wire or hot wire. Hot wire means to increase the deposition speed. In some occasions, such as thin plate welding or base weld, sometimes it is not necessary to add filler wire. Among the three welding methods mentioned above, manual tungsten inert gas welding is the most widely used, while semi-automatic tungsten inert gas welding is rarely used.
